Quiet Time – 2019

When my 4-year-old daughter recently started drawing tall dark mountains with peeks of yellow sunshine at the top, or colorful scribble shapes that piled up into a mountain I couldn’t help but view them as representations of my own emotional state. Holding strong, but ready to topple over at any time. These drawings served as inspiration for the installation Quiet Time which includes a handmade quilt appliqued with two mountain peaks constructed from clothes my daughter outgrew. They balance precariously on top of one another while a slow pulsating light shines through it reminding us all to breath, to relax, to feel the warmth that surrounds us. A reminder that a little quiet time may be just the thing we all need right now.
